GCA Scholarship winner announced

The winner of the Gladwyne Civic Association Scholarship for 2010-2011 is Virginia Hamilton. Ginny is 17 years old, was born and raised in Gladwyne, and will be a Senior at Merion Mercy Academy and plans to attend college (interested in Marine Biology), won the Gladwyne Clean-Up day award when she was in Jr. High, has done community service in Camden, NJ.

Ginny is articulate and energetic. The Gladwyne Civic is proud to have her as our 2010-2011 Scholarship winner and we look forward to working with her over the next year.

FALL 2010 MEETING DATES:

Tuesday, September 28th at 7:15pm ~ Gladwyne Firehouse

  • Wildlife Conservation Officer, Chris Heil will present an award to Mr. Henry Snyder of Gladwyne to recognize his effort in witnessing a Deer Poaching incident that had ocurred on Dodds Lane. Mr. Snyder’s information gave the officers of the PA Game Violations department the ability to successfully prosecute the subjects.

Tuesday, October 26th at 7:15pm ~ Waverly Heights ~ ANNUAL MEETING

  • The Gladwyne Village Project will be presented by John Anderson of Conrnerstone Engineers and Architectural Inc. for the improvements to the Historic Village of Gladwyne.
  • Our Gladwyne Scholarship Winner, Ginny Hamilton will be introduced at this meeting.

Everyone welcome, wine and cheese reception after the meeting.

Gladwyne Civic Association

Established in 1948, the objectives of the Gladwyne Civic Association are to maintain superior civic conditions in Gladwyne and to consider and take appropriate action concerning all questions relating to the welfare of the community.

Gladwyne residents and business owners are eligible for membership as well as those who live in designated areas of Villanova and Bryn Mawr. If you are not a member, we hope you will consider joining.

Residential membership dues are, as follows: Friend ($20), Patron ($35), Sponsor ($50) and Advocate ($100) and can be sent to the address listed on the join page, or paid through our secure PayPal account. We also encourage businesses to join — click here for more information. Dues enable us to fund efforts to maintain superior civic conditions in Gladwyne.

Monthly meetings on the fourth Tuesday of every month with the exception of July, August and December are a great way to stay informed. Meetings include reports from our Township Commissioners and discussion of issues effecting Gladwyne and the broader Township. Meetings are held in the Gladwyne Fire House Community Room or at another nearby location.

We publish a newsletter twice a year updating the community on events and accomplishments so please email newsworthy articles to us and we will try to include them.

Gladwyne Clean-Up Day
This event is supported by our local businesses and organizations. Volunteers meet at the Gladwyne Superfresh for assignments and supplies. Hoagies and soft drinks are provided. Volunteers are always needed.

Gladwyne Memorial Day Parade & Block Party
This commemorative day is co-sponsored by the Library League and held in the heart of the village, rain or shine. The parade assembles at 10:30 a.m. behind the Gladwyne Park. Children are invited to decorate their bikes, wagons, strollers and walk or ride in the parade. The parade begins at noon followed by a ceremony honoring our veterans. Food, fun and entertainment fill the block party and many wear red, white and blue for this very special day. Volunteers are needed.
